Volunteer IT Worker

Purpose of the role
  • To assist in the use and development of IT resources in the bureau.
Main duties and responsibilities may include
  • Show staff and volunteers how to use all aspects of IT in the bureau, and encourage its use
  • Identify the training needs of bureau workers in terms of IT
  • Help the bureau assess the actual and potential benefits of using IT in the bureau
  • Make recommendations to management as to present and future IT needs
  • Act as a “helpdesk” for the bureau IT equipment – sorting out IT problems as they occur
  • Network the bureau
  • Liaise with Citizen Advice with regard to IT matters
  • Audit the bureau IT equipment.
Personal skills and qualities to become an IT Worker
  • A commitment to the aims and principles of the CAB service
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An understanding of IT use within the bureau
  • To be friendly and approachable
  • To be able to work as part of a team
  • An awareness of the roles of other volunteers in the bureau
  • The ability to organise and deliver training
  • To be familiar with IT packages used in the bureau
  • An understanding of issues raised by the Data Protection Act.
