Purpose of the role
- To assist in the use and development of IT
resources in the bureau.

Main duties and responsibilities may include
- Show staff and volunteers how to use all
aspects of IT in the bureau, and encourage its use
- Identify the training needs of bureau workers in terms of IT
- Help the bureau assess the actual and potential benefits of using IT in
the bureau
- Make recommendations to management as to present and future IT needs
- Act as a “helpdesk” for the bureau IT equipment – sorting out IT
problems as they occur
- Network the bureau
- Liaise with Citizen Advice with regard to IT matters
- Audit the bureau IT equipment.

Personal skills and qualities
to become an IT Worker
- A commitment to the aims and principles of
the CAB service
- Excellent communication skills
- An understanding of IT use within the bureau
- To be friendly and approachable
- To be able to work as part of a team
- An awareness of the roles of other volunteers in the bureau
- The ability to organise and deliver training
- To be familiar with IT packages used in the bureau
- An understanding of issues raised by the Data Protection Act.
